Sunday evening we grilled out some wonderful ribeye steaks and believe it or not there was some left over. I've got several ways that I typically use leftover beef but this time I wanted something different. I decided on putting together a steak sandwich with a couple of surprise toppings. First, I took regular ketchup and turned it into a spicy, tangy sauce. Then I changed up my regular slaw recipe by adding chopped broccoli.
With all of my ingredients prepared and 2 hungry taste testers at the table, it was time to assemble the sandwiches. Here's how you do it -
- Thinly slice steak and warm in skillet. Make sure not to over cook the meat.
- Slice buns, lightly butter both sides and toast in oven.
- Slather a layer of Spicy Ketchup on bottom of bun and layer with steak.
- Top with a slice of provolone cheese.
- Place in oven to melt cheese.
- When cheese is melted, add a spoon full of sauce and top with Broccoli Slaw.
- Top with other half of toasted bun.
Steak Sandwich with Spicy Ketchup and Broccoli Slaw
Spicy Ketchup
2 cups of regular ketchup
1/4 cup red pepper jelly
1 teaspoon Worchestchershire sauce
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- Heat all ingredients in sauce pot until jelly has melted.
- Let cool for 10 minutes.
- Can be stored in fridge for 2 weeks.
Broccoli Slaw
1 bag of shredded broccoli
3/4 cup good mayo
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
- Take broccoli out of bag and give it a slight chop.
- Mix all other ingredients together and pour over broccoli.
- Taste and adjust the salt and pepper to your liking.
- Chill in fridge until ready to serve.
Ooo, I'm loving that ketchup with red pepper jelly! Great combo!
ReplyDeleteThanks y'all! These flavors were so, so good together. I think they will work on chicken or burgers too, right?
